You kinda can, in smaller venues. You can "overpower" the room to some extent to lessen the bad acoustics. I suppose it's a psychoacoustic thing. BT/DT in many venues across Europe and North America.
It's no fun, never sounds great, but is sometimes the only way to make chicken soup from chicken poop.
